About RockTeam
RockTeam is a leading IT consulting firm specializing in enterprise-grade collaboration systems, application management, and secure infrastructure for large and mid-sized organizations. We help clients design, deploy, and manage advanced systems that span on‑premises data centers, public cloud platforms, and complex hybrid environments. At RockTeam, you will work with experienced consultants, deep technologies from vendors like Microsoft, HCL, Cisco, and others, and a diverse set of client environments where your skills directly improve reliability, performance, and security.
If you enjoy solving complex infrastructure challenges, care deeply about security, and like working across both Windows and Unix platforms, RockTeam offers a collaborative environment where you can grow and make a visible impact.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Server Administrator with strong skills in both Windows Server and Unix/Linux administration. This role covers on‑premises, cloud, and hybrid environments and benefits from a solid understanding of networking and security typically gained from large environments. You will be responsible for building, maintaining, and securing server infrastructure, collaborating with other RockTeam consultants and client IT teams to ensure highly available, resilient, and compliant environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server and Unix/Linux systems in on‑prem, cloud, and hybrid environments.
- Manage core infrastructure services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file/print services, certificates, and system monitoring.
- Administer and support cloud environments (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS, or other major cloud platforms), including virtual machines, storage, and virtual networking.
- Implement and maintain security best practices: OS hardening, patching, access control, logging, vulnerability remediation, and compliance with client security policies.
- Perform regular system health checks, capacity planning, and performance tuning for servers, hypervisors, and related services.
- Collaborate with networking teams and/or client network engineers on routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, and load balancers; assist in troubleshooting network issues affecting servers.
- Automate routine tasks using PowerShell, Bash, or similar scripting tools to improve consistency and efficiency.
- Develop and maintain documentation for server builds, standards, configurations, and operational runbooks.
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide Tier 2/3 support for server and infrastructure incidents, including root cause analysis and long-term remediation.
- Assist with infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and disaster recovery exercises for RockTeam clients.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as a Server Administrator, Systems Engineer, or similar infrastructure-focused role.
- Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server (e.g., 2016/2019/2022), including Active Directory, Group Policy, and core roles/features.
- Solid experience administering Unix/Linux servers (e.g., RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, or similar).
- Practical experience with on‑prem virtualization (e.g., VMware, Hyper‑V) and integrating on‑prem workloads with cloud services.
- Working knowledge of at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP), including compute, storage, and networking fundamentals.
- Good understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, DNS, VPNs, and firewalls; exposure to Cisco or similar enterprise networking equipment is a plus.
- Strong security aptitude, including OS hardening, least-privilege access, patch and vulnerability management, and incident response basics.
- Experience with backup, restore, and disaster recovery tools and processes for both on‑prem and cloud workloads.
- Proficiency with scripting/automation (PowerShell, Bash, or similar) for administration and deployment tasks.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose complex infrastructure issues across multiple layers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a consulting or managed services environment, working with multiple client environments and priorities.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, ARM/Bicep, CloudFormation).
- Exposure to SIEM, EDR, vulnerability scanning, and other security tooling.
- Experience working within ITIL/ITSM processes (incident, change, problem management).
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft (Windows Server, Azure Administrator), AWS (SysOps Administrator), Linux (RHCSA/LPIC), or networking/security certifications (CCNA, Security+).
Personal Attributes
- Security-minded and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership for system uptime, integrity, and confidentiality.
- Clear communicator, able to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including client teams.
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment.
